Tom Bunney

July -August 2023

Hailing from the UK, Tom has now been based here in the Sea-to-Sky for 5 years and works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, predominantly in the mountain biking and outdoor industries.

His work is heavily inspired by the dark imagery of medieval times, mixed with strong contemporary graphic treatments, and is fuelled by 80’s heavy metal and a healthy dose of bikes, boards and mountain air. Centering around the macabre and the mysterious, his designs are often based on myths & legends and usually include animals, nature elements, skulls, and ancient weaponry, whilst conjuring themes of timeless symbolism.

After 5 years agency experience in London working on predominantly more corporate design work, Tom left the UK to chase the mountain lifestyle and has since made his illustration work his main focus. After living and working around the world before moving to BC, he maintains a worldwide client base and seeks to continue working with as many local-to-BC brands in the biking and extreme sports sectors as possible, as well as foraying into the alcohol, cannabis and natural healing products market. Please get in touch if you’d like to work together on any apparel, branding or packaging projects, or anything else that may be a good fit!

SHOWCASED ARTIST

To help bring exposure to the large population of talented artists in Squamish, the Copper Kraken Tattoo Emporium regularly showcases new artists creations in the studio’s gallery space ne for a visit to view the current works on display.

Justine Schlote

April-May 2023

Justine grew up  in Squamish. She didn’t have all that much growing up but she had love, nature, pencils and paints.  Justine calls herself an artist since she needs art like she needs to breathe .

Justines creations are mostly multi medium abstract. Mixing poetry with paint. Watercolour,  acrylic,  dreams with darkness and a little bit of razzle-dazzle .

She puts lines and colours on things like canvas, old pizza boxes, wooden boards from scrap piles among other things she can scavenge.

Her art is a little skewed and crooked it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s who she is.

”I’m just me in words colors dots and shapes. I just make things cause it flows through me making things with things already made or I like to reuse things that aren’t loved anymore. That’s my light so I’m gonna let it shine!” Everything Justine makes is a little piece of her heart and soul so she finds the light in the dark and lets it burn.

Theresa Columbus

March – April 2023

Teresa is a self-taught artist whose passion and natural ability has captured the attention of many, and garnered awards and invitations to unique artistic programs throughout the Sea-to-Sky where she was born, raised, and still resides.

Her work is predominantly semi-abstract impressionistic with a dash of surrealism; working primarily with oil and acrylic paints, she creates art almost entirely from her heart. She chooses bold colour combinations with gestural brush strokes to support conveying emotion.

Theresa has participated in several Art Battle competitions and in June 2022, went on to the national semi-finals. She’s also visible in her community through her charitable donations and participation in various art exhibitions within Squamish and Vancouver.

As an aside, she’s a huge fan of bedazzling her crocs.
